Year after year, new vehicles hit the market boasting enhancements over prior models. Every now and then, these enhancements are enough to grab the attention of the public at large and even change the way we do things.

Perhaps the most profound example of this is self-driving capabilities. Self-driving cars for sale to the public are now a reality and set to change how we travel like nothing ever has.

3 Self-Driving Cars for Sale

If you’d like a little help getting around, the following four self-driving cars for sale will be more than happy to take their own wheel.

1. The 2017 Volvo S90

This first model isn’t truly a self-driving car. The 2017 Volvo S90 does offer pilot assist, though, and, as you can see, that’s quite the feature (fast forward to the 4:10 mark to see it in action):

Volvo designed this feature to provide semi-automatic driving during low-speed traffic jams and operating on the highway. When it’s activated, pilot assist can accelerate, brake, and help steer the 2017 Volvo S90, all while following the flow of traffic. Aside from the convenience this offers, the feature is also meant to improve overall safety.

Furthermore, it’s incredibly easy to use. The driver of the 2017 Volvo S90 can activate and control pilot assist using buttons on the left-hand side of their steering wheel after selecting their preferred time gap and desired speed.

However, at the same time, the driver must keep their hands on the wheel of the 2017 Volvo S90 or pilot assist will turn itself off. Volvo restricts just how much accelerating, braking, and steering it can control, so the driver must always pay attention to the road. Again, this is not a fully self-driving vehicle.

2. 2017 Audi A8

While the 2017 Audi A8 earns its way on our list of self-driving cars for sale for obvious reasons, there is no shortage of technology inside of this beautiful vehicle. In fact, some are calling it “the most high-tech car ever.”

That said, the real selling point for most people will be that the 2017 Audi A8 makes traffic jams far more tolerable than most of us are accustomed to. Better still, unlike the Volvo S90, Audi designed this luxury sedan to operate even when the driver’s hands aren’t on the wheel.

Its restrictions are far more generous, too. The 2017 Audi A8 can reach 37.3 MPH when navigating slow-moving traffic.

At the same time, this vehicle exceeds Tesla’s best efforts – at least for now – in terms of the variety of devices used to ensure a safe trip. These include a front camera, radar, ultrasonic sensors, and a laser scanner.

One place where this sedan really does live up to the “self-driving” moniker is when it comes to parking. The 2017 Audi A8 can actually park itself. This includes parallel parking, as well. Best of all, you don’t even need to be inside the car when it happens. You can literally get out and begin walking away while the A8 moves into position.

A very similar model, the Audi S8 2017 may look the same, but it doesn’t have the self-driving feature. That said, next year’s model, the 2018 S8, may quickly set the standard for all autonomously-driven vehicles going forward.

3. The 2017 Tesla Model S

No list of self-driving cars for sale would be complete without mentioning Tesla. Although some would argue that Subaru actually pioneered this new era of vehicle by introducing their driver-assistance technology to a more price-sensitive demographic, Tesla is the company that populated the entire idea in the first place.

The 2017 Tesla Model S definitely looks the part, too. While its designs may not have shattered any molds, there is certainly something futuristic about its overall look.

The Tesla Model’s S autopilot feature is aided by eight cameras mounted around the exterior of the vehicle, providing the system with 360 degrees of visibility. There are another 12 ultrasonic sensors that are in charge of showing the vehicle where hard and soft objects are. The 2017 model’s range is twice that of the prior model. Then there’s enhanced radar that collects additional data about the car’s surroundings via a redundant wavelength that can cut through heavy rain, dust, fog, and even other vehicles ahead of it.

Finally, to ensure that all of these assets are working together in real-time, Tesla made this model with a computer that has 40 times the computing power of previous versions.

It’s also worth pointing out that this is the only model on our list self-driving cars for sale that truly deserves the designation. You can literally take your hands off the wheel and the Tesla Model S will drive itself.

Self-Driving Vehicles Are the Wave of the Future

As good as the Tesla Model S currently is, you can expect a lot better from self-driving cars for sale in the future. It’s actually easy to believe that future generations won’t have to learn how to drive because vehicles like the four above won’t require any help!
